What I Wish I Knew Before Becoming A Father

2 min read

My name is Cason Britt and I am serving as a Fatherhood Mentor with Ascend Women’s Care and Family Support in Carrollton, Georgia. I have a beautiful wife of almost 20 years and 4 precious children. I find my identity in my Savior Jesus Christ through His shed blood on the cross. I love Jesus and I want to serve Him and His kingdom. God has burdened my heart for the unborn and called me into the raging spiritual battle for these precious children. I am humbled and honored to be in the fight.

I was asked to list 5 things I wish I would have known before having children. I am going to sum up this list with one statement: Abide in Him daily! If I had put this statement into practice, then; I would have been a better husband and father. The same holds true today that all good fruit starts when I ABIDE IN HIM.

I also wish I knew to tell my children the following words and to treat them according to these words that I tell them.

Words for my sons: From Dad

  1. Son, I love you and I’m proud of you.

  2. Son, I believe you have what it takes to make it as a man.

  3. Son, you have a good mind and the ability to think and be successful.

  4. God’s hand is on your life, and He is going to use you in a significant way.

Words for my daughters: From Dad

  1. Sweetie, you are special and beautiful. Some man will be so fortunate to marry you someday.

  2. It is a joy to be around you and to spend time with you.

  3. I love you, and I always want you to feel safe and protected.

  4. God’s hand is on your life, and He is going to use you in a special way.
